In the Republic of Uzbekistan the total number of sports facilities at the end of 2016 was 50853, of which 51.1 percent are in the rural area. The total number of sports facilities compared to 2000 increased by 9.4 percent. The capacity of sports facilities per day is 1999.8 thousand persons or 24.4 percent more as compared to 2000.

Figure 1 shows that the leading position in the number of sports facilities is occupied by Fergana region (11.4 percent of the total number), Samarkand region (10.8 percent), Kashkadarya region (9.7 percent) and Tashkent region (8.7 percent). When analyzing the total number of persons involved in sports sections and teams by regions (Figure 2), the above-mentioned regions also have high rates for the number of persons who practice physical culture at physical education lessons.

Table 2 shows that as compared with 2000 the number of stadiums increased by 30.8 percent, sports halls by 81.7 percent, swimming pools by 6.9 percent, sports grounds and fields by 2.6 percent.

The main part of persons engaged in physical culture and sports are people who practice sports at physical education lessons. They are mostly regularly engaged in sports teams organized in educational institutions beginning from general education schools to higher education institutions (Figure 3).

Figure 4 shows that the population is very interested in sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, track and field athletics, checks, chess and handball.

When analyzing persons who practice sports in sport sections and departments by sex (Figure 5), it can be seen the activity of women in most sports. The high share of women is observed in such sports as rhythmic gymnastics, chess, checks, badminton, volleyball, handball, table tennis. It is also observed the interest of women in such sports as boxing, football, mini football and freestyle wrestling.

Number of sportsmen by categories in acting sections and sports schools
Figure 6 provides information on sportsmen by category trained in sections and schools in 2016. It can be seen that candidates for sports masters and masters of sports were trained in sports sections and schools of Andizhan, Namangan, Tashkent and Fergana regions. In addition, in 2016, 254 sports masters with international categories were trained in the republic, 164 of them in the city of Tashkent.

Over the past 5 years the total number of employees in physical culture and sports decreased by 4.3 percent while the number of sports trainers increased by 12.4 percent. In 2016, out of the total number of trainers 21.7 percent were women.
