On November 1, 2019 a round table was held at the Tashkent Institute of Railway Engineers on the topic “Procedure for the implementation of measures for the preparation and conduct of a population census”.The event was attended by the heads of Goskomstat, heads of departments of the central apparatus, teachers and students.
As was noted at the round table, the population census is a nationwide event that allows you to get a "photograph" of the country's population at a certain point in time, is the main source of information about the population.
The history of any state begins with a description of the history of the people living in it, the size and composition of the population and its economic and social characteristics. The most complete and accurate population information is provided by the census.
The exceptional importance of conducting a population census is determined by the fact that it creates a reliable basis for reflection on past periods and forecasts of future development.
The population census is a single process of collecting, summarizing, evaluating, analyzing and publishing demographic, economic and social data that apply to all residents of the country, is the main source of information about the population, creates a reliable basis for forecasts of future development for 10-30 years, allows you to get necessary information for making political and managerial decisions on the development of territories and providing assistance to the most vulnerable sectors of society.
As noted at the event, the first census in Uzbekistan was conducted in 1897. These data gave us the opportunity to find out the number of families, the population by gender and age, ethnic composition, birth, mortality and other demographic processes at the end of the 19th century. And also, in 1926, 1939, 1959, 1970, 1979 and 1989, a census was organized on the territory of Uzbekistan.
At a press conference, Goskomstat specialists answered all the students' questions in detail.
