On May 14 of this year, a webinar was organized in Goskomstat on the topic “The role of the census in the development of the country”.

At the webinar, the head of the department of demography and labor statistics, Berdikulov Kobil Gulomovich , informed in detail online listeners about the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the census of the population”, its contents, the process of preparing for this event and the demographic situation at the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It should be noted that, on March 16 this year, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the census of the population” was adopted. The law was discussed with interested ministries, departments, as well as the general public, and was supplemented by the content taking into account the submitted proposals. The main purpose of this Law is to determine the principles and organizational methods for preparing and conducting a census, forming the legal basis for collecting, processing, summarizing information, presenting its results to the public and regulating relations between census subjects and improving the work in this direction.

The adoption of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the census" will provide a comprehensive streamlining and systematization of relations in the field of census.

During the webinar, information was also provided on the demographic situation at the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the speaker, the number of resident population of the Republic of Uzbekistan as of April 1, 2020 amounted to 34036.8 thousand people and since the beginning of the year increased by 131.6 thousand people, or 0.4%.

Analysis by regions of the republic showed that, as of April 1, 2020, the largest population is observed in Samarkand - 11.4% (share in the total population of the republic), Ferghana - 11.1%, Kashkadarya - 9.7% and Andijan - 9.2% of the regions.

According to preliminary data, as of April 1, 2020, 30.8% of the total resident population in the republic are people under working age, 58.7% - at working age and 10.5% - over working age.

At the end of the meeting, organized online, the participant s and webinars were breech us questions on the topic. Most of the questions concerned the organizational issues of the census, the procedure for registering compatriots traveling abroad, the remuneration of volunteers involved in the census. Comprehensive answers were given to the questions by Goskomstat employees.

Given the current pandemic and the country's orientation towards the development of the digital economy, the webinar is of great importance. To do this, regular online meetings have been organized, which are of such practical importance for professors, researchers, and students.
