On September 17 this year, at the Grand Mir Hotel, together with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), the Center for Retraining of Journalists and the State Committee on Statistics, a training seminar was organized to improve the skills of journalists and bloggers on media coverage of the pilot population census.
The event was attended by representatives of UNFPA, specialists from the Center for Retraining of Journalists, employees of the State Committee on Statistics and territorial statistical offices, as well as journalists and bloggers.
The aim of the training is to increase the capacity of journalists and bloggers to produce quality publications and other media content on this topic.
During the training seminar, reports were made by Deputy Head of the UN Population Fund Office in Uzbekistan Kamolkhon Inomkhodzhaev, Head of the Department of Socio-Demographic Statistics of the CIS Statistical Committee Irina Zbarskaya, UNFPA international expert Galina Shcherbakova, Head of the Department for Organization and Conduct of Census Processes of the State Committee on Statistics Kobil Berdikulov, trainer of the Center for Retraining of Journalists Nargis Kosimova, head of the Information Service of the State Committee on Statistics Usmon Abdurasulov.
The speakers dwelt in detail on the legal and regulatory framework of the population census, the specifics of preparing materials for the population census, the basics of Fake News and factchecking, methods of determining the target audience and working with it.
At the end of the event, the issues of establishing close cooperation for widespread promotion of the pilot census processes in the media were discussed with journalists and bloggers.
