On February 14 of this year, the regular meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), began in Geneva, Switzerland.

This prestigious event is a meeting of the members of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians, at which important decisions are made regarding the activities of the Conference of European Statisticians, its work plans are discussed, the results of the work done and plans for the future are summarized.

For information: The UNECE Conference of European Statisticians (CES) is the world forum of official statistics in importance, second only to the UN Statistical Commission. The CES members are the heads of national statistical offices of all 56 countries in the region of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The work of the CES is managed by a Bureau consisting of 9 members from UNECE member countries.

In particular, such topical topics as timeliness, frequency and transparency of official statistics, population and housing censuses, data management, modernization of official statistics,  as well as issues of preparation for the CES 2024 plenary meeting will be discussed at this regular meeting of the CES Bureau.

At the event, among other things, the admission of the Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians will be officially announced.

From the point of view of including European statisticians in the Bureau of the Conference for the first time not only in the history of Uzbekistan, but also the countries of Central Asia, participation in such a prestigious high-level organization will serve to increase the prestige of Uzbekistan in the international arena and effectively promote the interests of our country in the field of statistics.

On the first day of the event, the delegation of the Statistics Agency met with the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations – Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Ms. Tatiana Molchan. The parties discussed issues of conducting a Global Assessment of the National Statistical System in Uzbekistan in 2024, the processes of preparing for the population census, achievements of sustainable development goals and other areas of cooperation.

During the event, representatives of the Statistics Agency met and discussed issues of close cooperation in the field of statistics with representatives of the Statistical Department of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, the National Statistical Office of Great Britain, Statistics Canada, the Central Statistical Office of Latvia, the Institute of Statistics of Albania, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI) and other international organizations.
