On February 21, 2024, a meeting was held at the Agency of Statistics under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan within the framework of the project “Strengthening the statistical system in Uzbekistan” with representatives of the World Bank.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Bakhodir Abdusalomovich Begalov and the heads of Departments of the central office. On the part of the World Bank – Mr. Obert Pimhidzai, Ms. Ikuko Uochi, Ms. Yulia Komagaeva and other experts.

The purpose of the mission was to discuss further steps in the implementation of the project ”Strengthening the statistical system in Uzbekistan", discuss the action plan, the ongoing work on calculating the poverty level and the publication of the results of the 2021 Round of the International Comparison Program based on the purchasing power parity of currencies.

Recall that in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 3, 2020 No. PP - 4796, the “National Strategy for the Development of Statistics of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2025” was approved, developed with the support of experts from the World Bank.
Currency purchasing power parity is a ratio of currencies that takes into account the price level in different economies; it is determined on the basis of equality of the cost of a set of goods and services calculated in prices and currencies of the compared economies.

The meeting also discussed the results of the work and the timing of the publication of indicators for calculating the poverty level for 2023, which were previously conducted by employees of the Office of Living Standards Statistics and Population surveys together with experts from the World Bank.

Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of this project.
