On April 16-19, 2024, the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, organized a series of seminars with the participation of Jamison Henninger, representative of the international open data ratings Open Data Inventory (ODIN) and Gender Data Compass of the international organization «Open Data Watch», located in Washington, USA.
In particular, at the «InterContinental Tashkent» hotel, the Statistics Agency, together with the Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, held an international seminar «Improving open gender information towards inclusive management and decision-making in Uzbekistan».
The event was attended by representatives of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, international organizations, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, and industry experts from a number of organizations.
At the same time, a seminar was held in the building of the Statistics Agency, full of intensive discussions with employees and specialists of the relevant sectoral departments of the Agency about the gaps identified in the country in the international rankings of Open Data Inventory (ODIN) and Gender Data Compass and ways to eliminate them.
During the event, topics such as:
- further development of the field of open information in our country;
- improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan in ODIN, which evaluates the quality of open data, and other ratings and indices;
- increasing the number of open data sets;
- bringing the quality of gender information to a new level in our country;
- study of the international practice of creating the possibility of placing geospatial data on the Open Data Portal.
Also, on April 18 of this year, a seminar was organized at the Statistics Department of the Tashkent region. This event was attended by the specialists of the Statistics Agency and all employees of the department.
During the seminar, topics such as improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan in ODIN and other ratings and indexes evaluating the quality of open data, bringing the quality of gender data in our country to a new level, as well as studying the international practice of placing geospatial data on the open data portal were widely covered.
The event, organized as part of the visit of a representative of the Open Data Watch organization, was held in a heated discussion form, and appropriate answers were given to the questions of the participants.
