In accordance with the Statistical Program, as well as in order to ensure full accounting of the volume of tourism in the export-import of the republic, the formation of the necessary information for maintaining statistical indicators and the auxiliary account of tourism, a survey was conducted in May of this year to study the expenditures of visitors on inbound and outbound tourism.

The sample survey was organized jointly with the Statistics Agency and the Committee on Tourism based on the recommendations of experts from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Talented students of higher educational institutions who were fluent in foreign languages (181 people in total) were recruited as interviewers for selective observation. In order to objectively compile tourism statistics indicators, training seminars were held for supervisors and interviewers participating in the survey to explain observations and fill out questionnaires.

To review the average consumption per visitor, a sample survey was organized at the international airports of the cities of Nukus, Samarkand, Namangan, Tashkent, Karshi, Navoi, Fergana, Urgench, as well as at the railway stations of Tashkent and Nukus, at the main border customs posts of Andijan, Bukhara, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Fergana and Tashkent regions.

A total of 18,794 visitors were interviewed during the observation period. Of these, 9,172 are foreign citizens (export services) and 9,622 citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan (import services).

In order to generalize the results and calculate the actual volume of exports of tourism services, average consumption indicators per visitor were generated, differentiated taking into account the countries visited by foreign tourists from the near abroad, CIS countries and beyond.
To determine the import of tourism services, the average expenses incurred by citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries were also calculated.
