On November 12-13 of this year, in the city of Tashkent, the CIS Statistical Committee, in cooperation with the Agency of Statistics under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, is holding an international conference with the participation of specialists from statistical services of the CIS countries on issues of maintaining the system of national accounts.The aim of the event is to exchange advanced practices in the formation of national accounts and the development of macroeconomic indicators, as well as to strengthen international cooperation.

The conference is attended by representatives from the statistical agencies of CIS member countries, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee. National statistical representatives from these countries are exchanging views on economic statistics, macroeconomic indicators, calculations, and the application of international experience. Additionally, the conference discusses strengthening information exchange among CIS countries, unifying national account formation methods, and improving standards and methodologies in this field.

The conference includes various thematic sessions over two days. On the first day, heads of statistical services from CIS countries provide updates on the current state of their national accounts systems, existing achievements, and challenges in their countries. On the second day, participants discuss the application of new technologies in the national accounts system, anticipated changes in determining economic indicators, and international cooperation. They will also present new approaches to resolving challenges in the formation of economic indicators.

During the meeting, representatives from participating countries are showcasing achievements and challenges in the field of national accounts and macroeconomic indicators. Since the event is being held in both online and offline formats, several countries' representatives are participating remotely. Additionally, experts invited from the international statistical community, including specialists from the CIS Statistical Committee, are sharing their knowledge and experience on these issues.

Within the framework of the conference, Uzbekistan's representatives are also presenting their experiences, sharing information on recent reforms in the national accounts system, and efforts to implement methodologies that meet international standards.

For information, Uzbekistan’s gross domestic product (GDP) calculations are carried out according to the international “SNA 2008” standards in line with government finance statistics and balance of payments data, with results published regularly on the Statistics Agency's official website. The introduction of quarterly GDP calculations has improved the accuracy of quarterly national accounts. Additionally, production coefficients are regularly updated based on results from monitoring corporate expenses, and the practice of preparing “Supply and Use” tables has been enhanced.

It is noteworthy that this year, Uzbekistan conducted its first evaluation of the shadow economy. During this process, special sample surveys were conducted among more than 7,000 households across 165 districts of the country. These surveys collected data on expenditures in areas such as transport, accommodation and food, culture, education, and healthcare.

This conference serves as a platform to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and other CIS countries’ statistical services, as well as to explore new opportunities for further development of the national accounts system. Participants are expected to make several decisions aimed at improving the indicators of the national accounts system, learning from international experiences, and applying them in their practices.

At the end of the conference, through mutual exchange of views, participants will establish a general approach to further enhance statistical services and develop national accounts systems in CIS countries.
