On December 3-4, 2024, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific organized an expert meeting on "Strengthening the evidence base for migration in North and Central Asia" in Bangkok, Thailand.
The meeting was attended by representatives of organizations, statistical agencies from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and the Russian Federation, as well as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the International Organization for Migration, the CIS Statistical Committee, and other experts who discussed the items on the agenda.
The Deputy Head of the Department of Demography, Labor, and Gender Statistics of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Khurromovich Abrayev, participated in the meeting.
The meeting was organized within the framework of the ESCAP project "Strengthening national capacity in developing evidence-based policies for the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in North and Central Asia regions," where research findings on current migration issues in North and Central Asia were presented, specifically on migration policy, gender aspects of migration, migrant integration, remittances, and remittance costs.
Additionally, at the event, each participant presented information about the work being carried out in their country regarding statistical accounting of the migration situation, achievements, and tasks to be implemented in the future.
