On October 26-27, 2020 in Geneva (Switzerland), the 17th session of the Joint Task Force on Environmental Statistics and Indicators and the 22nd session of the Working Group on Environmental Monitoring and Assessment took place online.

The sessions were attended by representatives of the statistical services of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, North Macedonia and other member states of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, as well as experts from the European Commission, the European Environment Agency environment, the Global Earth Observation System of Systems, the United Nations Environment Development Program, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The 17th session was aimed at providing updated information on the latest developments in the framework of the project "Improving environmental monitoring and assessment in support of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus" and a number of others capacity building activities. During the session, the revised Guidelines for the Application of Environmental Indicators were discussed, issues were considered about the need to replace or add some indicators, for example, those related to climate change and others.
The 22nd session discussed the availability of environmental indicators and their availability online, presented the work of the Working Group on Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, considered the principles and practices of the Common Environmental Information System in the eastern region, the draft schedule of events for 2021 held by the Working group.
