On June 22, 2021, the Federal State Statistics Service ROSSTAT, together with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and with the assistance of the Centrostat International Center for Statistical Expertise, organized an online seminar on migration statistics for the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
This workshop is being implemented within the framework of the United Nations Population Fund Program (UNFPA), with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, and is aimed at improving the collection, analysis and use of population data for the development of evidence-based policy in the CIS countries.
The workshop participants were welcomed by: Ms. Alanna Armitage, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, United Nations Population Fund UNFPA, Mr. Pavel Smelov, Deputy Head of the Federal State Statistics Service, Mr. Konstantin Kulikov, Counselor, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. Leading international and regional experts made presentations: representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the World Bank, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The participants of the seminar considered the issues of measuring migration based on the results of the population censuses of the 2020 round, updating the methodology for collecting and analyzing data, harmonizing and disseminating statistics, reviewing international databases on migration, statistics of labor migration and remittances.
The State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics at the event was represented by the Head of the Department of Statistics of Demography and Labor, Zoyir Yuldoshev; Deputy Head of Directorate / Head of the Department of Census Methodology and Work with Cartographic Documents Sherzod Dusnaev; Deputy Head of the Department / Head of the Department for the formation of summary analytical information on statistics of population, demography and labor Sherzod Abraev.
