From February 27 to March 1 of this year, the regular 55-th session of the Statistical Commission is being held at the UN headquarters. Delegation led by the director of the Statistics Agency is attending this global event.

During the event, the delegation met with heads of international organizations, such as the director of the UN Department of Statistics (Stefan Schweinfest), the head of the Open Data Watch organization (Shaida Badiee), the director of the SESRIC center of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Zehra Zyumrut Selcuk), the head of the Department of Statistics of the Socio-Economic Commission UN for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) (Rachael Beaven), Head of the Department of Statistics of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (Tiina Luige), Head of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS (K.E. Laykam), as well as heads of national statistical services of Canada (Anil Arora) , Malaysia (Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin), Korea (Lee Hyoung Il), Singapore (Dr. Koh Eng Chuan), CIS countries and Central Asia.

In addition, the delegation joined working discussions of the Bureau of the Statistical Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Bureau of the Statistical Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Also, a memorandum of cooperation and understanding in the field of statistics was signed between the Department of Statistics of Malaysia and the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the event, the delegation got acquainted with information about the latest international methods and advanced foreign experience adopted in the field of statistics, and also achieved:

- publication of Uzbekistan’s achievements in monitoring and implementing sustainable development goals (69th place among 166 countries with 71.2 points at the end of 2023) on the SDG website of the UN Statistics Division (link: https://dashboards.sdgindex.org/profiles/Uzbekistan) ;

- recognition of the achievements of Uzbekistan in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) rating (30th place among 192 countries in the rating with 70 points, first place in Central Asia);
- as a result of the meetings, agreements were reached on further cooperation on important issues related to the development of the national statistical system of the Republic of Uzbekistan.


For information: The UN Statistical Commission, created in 1947, is the highest body of the world statistical system. It brings together national statisticians of UN member states from around the world.
It is the main decision-making body in the field of international statistics, in particular the development of statistical standards, concepts and methodologies and their implementation at the international and national levels.
It is also a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), which assists the Council in developing national statistical systems and ensuring the comparability of national statistical data, coordinating the activities of UN specialized agencies in the field of statistics and improving statistics and statistical methodologies.
Sessions of the Commission are held annually at the UN headquarters in New York and are the highest official international forum in the field of statistics.
Over its more than 75 years of activity, the Statistical Commission has become the main forum for the discussion and adoption of major international standards, conceptual definitions and guidelines in all areas of statistics.
