From February 27 to March 1 of this year, the 55-th session of the Statistical Commission is being held at the UN headquarters. Delegation led by the Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Bakhodir Abdusalomovich Begalov is attending this event.

At the 55-th session of the UN Statistical Commission, the Director of the Statistics Agency emhasized the reforms being carried out in our country in the field of statistics, the latest changes made to the activities of the statistical system, the mechanism for ensuring openness and transparency of statistical data, and the establishment of activities based on advanced quality management systems, implementation of statistical processes in accordance with the latest international methodologies and standards, monitoring the achievement of national Sustainable Development Goals, gender statistics, as well as the results of progress achieved in assessments of the international open data ranking “Open Data Inventory ” (ODIN).

It should be noted that in 2023 the following positive results were achieved:

- The Republic of Uzbekistan rose to 30th place with 70 points among 195 countries in the Open Data inventory (ODIN) open data ranking and retained 1st place in Central Asia;

- In the SDG Index published by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Uzbekistan ranked 69th among 166 countries with a score of 71.1;

- In the latest report of the Open Data Watch organization, Uzbekistan was among the top 20 countries in the world according to the “Open Gender Data Index”, scoring 69.7 points;

- On the official web page of the UN Statistics Division, Uzbekistan is included among 87 countries with best practices in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals;

- The open data portal of the Republic of Uzbekistan (https://data.egov.uz) received a Gold Level certificate according to the assessment system of the Open Data Institute (ODI) in London. For information, only 3 websites in the world have received the Platinum Level certificate, which is the highest. One of them is the official website of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (https://stat.uz).

Also, fruitful and effective cooperation to improve regional statistics with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific ( ESCAP), including with the countries of the ESCAP region, was emphasized.

During the 55-th session of the UN Statistical Commission, the delegation of the Statistics Agency got acquainted with the latest international methodologies and best foreign practices adopted in the field of statistics.

Members of the delegation took part in working discussions of the Bureau of the Statistical Council of the UN Social and Economic Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the Bureau of the Statistical Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

During the event, the delegation met with the heads of international organizations, such as the director of the UN Department of Statistics (Stefan Schweinfest), the head of the Open Data Watch organization (Shaida Badiee), the director of the SESRIC center of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Zehra Zumrut Selcuk), the head of the Statistics Department of the Social and Economic Commission UN for Asia and the Pacific (Rachael Beaven), Head of the Statistics Division of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (Tiina Luige), Head of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS (K.E. Laykam), as well as with the heads of national statistical services of Canada (Anil Arora), Malaysia (Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahiddin), Korea (Lee Hyoung Il), Singapore (Dr. Koh Eng Chuan), CIS countries.

As a result of the meetings, agreements were reached on further cooperation on important issues related to the development of the national statistical system of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Also, a memorandum of cooperation and understanding in the field of statistics was signed between the Department of Statistics of Malaysia and the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

As a result of negotiations with representatives of the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), an agreement was reached to conduct a Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of Uzbekistan in cooperation with Eurostat and the European Free Trade Association in the 4-th quarter of 2024.

An agreement was reached with the Korean National Statistical Office on the visit of a delegation from the Statistics Agency to KOSTAT in May 2024 with the aim of exchanging experience and integrating the institutes of the two organizations on the basis of “twining” in order to stenghten the human resources potential of the system.

These meetings are important in that, they are aimed at establishing close cooperation in the implementation of the latest international recommendations and best foreign experience.
