The Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been cooperating with the office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan in the development of an open data ecosystem since 2019. Over these past years, significant results have been achieved as a result of joint work. In particular, a reliable regulatory framework in the field of open data has been formed in Uzbekistan, and a new and up-to-date Open Data Portal (data.egov.uz) has been created. In 2019-2024, training courses on improving the openness of government bodies and developing an open data ecosystem in Uzbekistan were provided, with more than 1,200 state data officers who were responsible for ensuring openness in government bodies and departments trained.

In 2024, the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, organized a large number of events to develop the open data ecosystem and improve the openness of gender data in our country.
On January 26-28, 2024, the New Uzbekistan University hosted the Open Data Challenge Hackathon, an annual competition organized jointly by the Statistics Agency and OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan with the aim to promote the development of technological solutions using open data.


In February-March 2024, representatives of the Statistics Agency took part in the 55th session of the UN Statistical Commission in New York with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.


At the beginning of 2024, the international organization Open Data Watch published the new Gender Data Compass ranking. In this ranking, at the end of 2023, Uzbekistan ranked at 56th place among 185 countries. The Gender Data Compass offers a broad overview of gender data, including collection, production and use of data. Providing a comprehensive overview of gender data systems, it serves as a practical guide for national statistical offices and their partners, offering direction and support in achieving gender equality.

Today, according to the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) open data rating, Uzbekistan, having scored 70 points, ranks 30th in the world. To improve open data and gender data in our country, international experts were invited to Uzbekistan in April 2024. The expert visits were organized with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.

On April 16, 2024, at the InterContinental Tashkent Hotel, the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality and the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, held an international seminar on improving open gender data towards inclusive management and acceptance solutions in Uzbekistan. The event was attended by representatives of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Employment, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, international organizations, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of line ministries and departments, as well as experts from a number of organizations.

On April 16-19, 2024, the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the support of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, organized a series of seminars with the participation of international experts. Also, on April 18 of this year, a seminar was organized at the Statistics Department of the Tashkent region. This event was attended by the Agency’s statistics specialists and all employees of the department.

On July 31, 2024 Committee on Information Policy and Ensuring Openness in Government Bodies of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, Open Data Watch, the Open Data Charter and Women in Tech Uzbekistan held an international webinar on the topic “Exploring international best practices to improve open gender data in Uzbekistan.”


On August 26-30 of this year in Ottawa (Canada), with the support of the Office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, employees of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the National Statistics Agency of Canada, During this visit, the National Statistics Canada's experience in working with open data, the use of statistical standards and the dissemination of metadata, the Canadian Open Data Portal and the publication of data sets, was explored, Statistics Canada's open data implementation processes and changes made during the transition to open data, experience in coordinating and sharing data with Statistics Canada, geospatial data and its coordination, infrastructure project planning tool, Canada's Connected Open Data Environment is an initiative that collects and harmonizes building and business data sets into one open database, an open source platform for publishing information on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), continuous access to information.

On December 2-11, 2024, the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized training courses on the topic “Increasing the openness of government bodies and developing an open data ecosystem in our country” together with the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, the Technological Park of Software Products and Information Technologies (IT-Park) and the Anti-Corruption Agency. The training courses focused on “Open Data,” machine-readable formats, open data portals, the “Openness Index,” the latest achievements of our country in the field of open data and existing problems in this area. More than 200 representatives from 73 ministries and departments responsible for ensuring openness took part in the trainings.
