On June 9 this year, a videoconference seminar was held at the State Committee on Statistics on the topic “Strategy for achieving gender equality - essence and content”.
It was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Women and Gender Equality Malika Kadirkhanova, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Statistics Mahmudjon Ziyadullaev, representatives of the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations, as well as journalists.
Senator M. Kodirkhanova spoke about the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030, which was considered at the fifteenth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In particular, it was noted that in recent years in the country, issues of gender equality have been raised to the level of state policy, 25 legislative acts have been adopted, the share of women in political parties has reached 44%, in higher education - 40%, in entrepreneurship - 35%, women are widely are involved in information and communication, innovation, energy, engineering spheres.
As noted, the share of women in leadership positions has reached 27%. In 81 ministries and departments, more than 15 thousand personnel reserves have been formed, consisting of advanced and educated women.
Goskomstat staff expressed their opinion on the strategy for achieving gender equality. It was noted that this strategy will contribute to the advancement of gender equality in economic, political and social life in order to create conditions for the realization of equal rights and opportunities for men and women, as well as the observance of fundamental human rights.
Goskomstat, together with the Gender Commission, international organizations, experts, as well as relevant ministries and departments, are taking a number of positive measures to improve the coverage and quality of gender statistics indicators in our country. In particular:
- 54 minimum gender indicators, formed on the basis of UN recommendations, are formed by statistical departments and other ministries and departments in accordance with the established procedure, posted on the official website “gender.stat.uz” and are regularly updated;
- in order to create convenience for users of “gender.stat.uz”, a new version of the official website has been developed:
- indicators of gender statistics in all sections of the site are prepared and placed in the form of tables in 3 languages, in 5 different formats (pdf, xlsx, csv, json, xml).
At the end of the event, the participants expressed their suggestions and comments, received answers to their questions.
