The 56th regular session of the Statistical Commission was held from March 4-7 of this year at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York (USA). The delegation of the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on took part in this event.

As part of the event, the delegation met with heads of international organizations, including the Director of the UN Statistics Division (Stefan Schweinfest), the head of Open Data Watch (Shaida Badiee), the Chief of the Statistics Division of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Rachel Beaven), the Chief of the Statistics Division of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (Tiina Luige), as well as heads of national statistical services from Canada (Anil Arora), Thailand (Dr. Piyanuch Wuttisorn) and CIS countries.

During the discussions, the delegation highlighted the ongoing reforms in the field of statistics in our country, the latest changes made to the activities of the statistical system, the mechanism for ensuring openness and transparency of statistical data, establishing activities based on advanced quality management systems, implementing statistical processes in accordance with the latest international methodologies and standards, monitoring the achievement of national Sustainable Development Goals, gender statistics, as well as the results of progress achieved in the international Open Data Inventory (ODIN) rating.

It should be noted that the following positive results were achieved in 2024:

- The Republic of Uzbekistan rose to 30th place with 70 points among 195 countries in the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking and maintained 1st place in Central Asia;

- In the Gender Data Compass ranking, Uzbekistan took 56th place;

- The Open Data Portal of the Republic of Uzbekistan (https://data.egov.uz) received the Gold Level certificate from the Open Data Institute (ODI) in London. For information, only 3 sites in the world have received the Platinum Level certificate, which is the highest. One of them is the official website of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics (https://stat.uz).

The delegation also emphasized fruitful and effective cooperation in improving regional statistics with the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), including with countries in the ESCAP region.

Members of the delegation took part in the working discussions of the Bureau of the Statistical Council of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

Following the meetings, agreements were reached on further cooperation on important issues related to the development of the National Statistical System of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
