On May 14-16 of this year, a delegation headed by the Deputy Chairman of the National Statistics Committee Ziyaev Zohidjon Muratovich took part in a high-level seminar on the topic "Official statistics in a rapidly changing world: the effectiveness, role and readiness of official statistics" in the city of Budva, Montenegro.

The high-level seminar was organized in cooperation with the Statistics Office of the European Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. It was attended by the leadership and experts of Eurostat, representatives of Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Iceland, Norway, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
During the three-day seminar, the countries shared their experiences regarding the latest major changes.
Representatives of Uzbekistan familiarized with the main tasks and changes defined in the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 24, 2025 No. UP-27 "On Additional Measures to Raise the System of Organization and Maintenance of Statistical Work to a New Level."
During the seminar, presentations were made on what is important in official statistics, how to assess it, and how national statistical institutions promote the importance of their statistical products and services, disseminate official statistics in the era of false, distorted data and information chaos, and ways to increase the importance of official statistics.
Also, the practice of effective use of data sources for official statistics, the project of artificial intelligence and machine learning for official statistics, and the experience of developed countries in the development and transformation of official statistics were shared.
At the 1st session of the high-level seminar, a presentation was made on the topic "Implementation of new data sources for official statistics of the Republic of Uzbekistan: effective use of alternative sources using the example of price statistics." It demonstrated the collection of price data through observations, as well as the integration and web scraping from alternative sources, using examples.
During the visit, the delegation of the National Statistics Committee held a meeting with the UNECE Regional Advisor on Statistics for Central Asia, Tayeke Galtema, and discussed the results of the "Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of Uzbekistan," conducted in June 2024.
Also, with the support of experts from the UNECE Statistics Division, an agreement was reached to conduct an assessment on June 23-26, 2025, to study the state of implementation of quality management systems (GSBPM, GSIM) in the National Statistical System.
During the meeting with the head of the European Union statistical office, Eurostat representatives were familiarized with the work being carried out in Uzbekistan to improve the system of statistical observations at the macroeconomic and sectoral levels, integration into the information systems of ministries and departments, and increasing the coverage and quality of official statistical data. An agreement was reached to assist in establishing close contacts with the statistical bodies of Kazakhstan, Norway, and Moldova on the formation and implementation of statistical registers.
A meeting was held with the head of the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova, where an exchange of views took place on the transformation of the national statistical system of Uzbekistan, and directions for the exchange of experience between the two agencies were agreed upon.
In particular, issues and organizational aspects of establishing cooperation and exchange of experience in order to study Moldova's best practices and practices in the field of macroeconomic indicators, statistics of national accounts and services were discussed.
At the meeting with representatives of the Norwegian Statistical Office, information was provided on the formation of the National Statistics Committee, integration processes with the databases of ministries and departments, the transition from statistical reporting to the use of sample surveys and administrative data. An agreement was also reached on organizing an online meeting with the participation of specialists from both sides to study the experience of Norway in developing the information and communication strategy of the National Statistics Committee.
