From September 24 to 26 of this year, the 3rd International Statistical Forum of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the theme “Prospects of Statistics: International Projects”.

The forum was organized by the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, in honor of World Statistics Day. It was attended by high-level delegations from 15 countries and more than 10 international organizations, as well as representatives of academia and experts.

The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by the Chairman of the National Statistics Committee, took part in the event. On the first day of the forum, the Chairman delivered a presentation on the modernization of Uzbekistan’s national statistical system. He also gave an interview to Report.Az regarding the upcoming population and agricultural census in Uzbekistan, as well as a cooperation memorandum planned to be signed with the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan in 2026.

During the forum, discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the System of National Accounts 2025, the International Comparison Program – 2024, the 2030 round of Population and Housing Censuses, monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals, cross-sectoral and sectoral statistical projects, information technologies, integration of statistical data and smart data, as well as the development of competencies in statistics.

Additionally, the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan held meetings with statistical agencies of foreign countries and international organizations.
In particular, discussions were held with Tiina Luidje, Director of the UNECE Statistics Division, on cooperation; with the Georgian statistics office on improving statistical surveys; with the Serbian statistics office on the introduction of modern information and communication technologies and digitalization; with the National Statistics Committee of Belarus on population and agricultural censuses; and with the Hungarian statistics office on the use of GIS technologies. Agreements were reached to further expand cooperation.
