On March 3, 2026, the 57th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission began its work at the UN Headquarters in New York. The delegation of Uzbekistan is also participating in this prestigious international meeting.

The delegation is headed by the Chairman of the National Statistics Committee Behzod Khamraev.
Within the framework of the session, countries are discussing key issues related to the development of official statistics.
In particular:
-
improving indicators for assessing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) until 2030;
-
wider use of artificial intelligence and modern digital technologies in official statistics;
-
assessing countries’ development not only through GDP, but also through indicators of well-being and social development;
-
integrating environmental and climate change statistics into national reporting systems.
An important event took place during the session.
The head of the Uzbek delegation, Behzod Khamraev, was elected Vice-Chair of the Bureau of the UN Statistical Commission.
This decision reflects Uzbekistan’s growing reputation in the international statistical community and the recognition of the reforms being implemented in the country to develop official statistics.
The Population and Agricultural Census, being conducted in Uzbekistan for the first time in the country’s history, is being implemented in accordance with the latest international recommendations of the United Nations. This also became one of the important factors.
In addition, during the session the Uzbek delegation plans to hold a number of meetings with the leadership of the UN Statistics Division, international organizations, and heads of national statistical offices from various countries.
It should be noted that in April 2025 Uzbekistan was elected for the first time in its history as a full member of the UN Statistical Commission for the period 2026–2029.
This demonstrates that the country’s efforts aimed at strengthening transparency, reliable data, and a modern statistical system are being highly recognized at the international level.
