Today, 25 September, the National Statistics Committee hosted a meeting with representatives of the UN Women Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia.
The meeting was attended by Belén Sanz Luque, UN Women Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia; Elisa Fernandez Saenz, Deputy Regional Director; Seren Güven Gures, Head of the Central Asia Liaison Office and Acting Country Programme Manager for Uzbekistan; as well as the leadership of the National Statistics Committee and representatives of its relevant structural divisions.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the further development of gender statistics in Uzbekistan and the expansion of cooperation in this area. In particular, they exchanged views on improving the coverage and quality of gender-related statistical data, applying modern approaches to its production, and introducing international best practices.
Particular attention was paid to the collection and monitoring of data on gender-related indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals, the effective use of available information sources, and the continuous improvement of relevant indicators.
The participants also discussed the tasks related to gender statistics set out in the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics for 2026–2030 and considered opportunities for cooperation in their implementation.
In addition, the parties exchanged views on future plans to strengthen the capacity of specialists working in this field, facilitate the exchange of experience, and expand technical assistance.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to consistently continue cooperation aimed at improving gender statistics and promoting the wider application of international standards and best practices.
