On October 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at the Hilton Hotel in Tashkent, a press conference was held on the topic “Preliminary results of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS)”, held by the State Committee on Statistics and the representative office of the United Nations International Children's Fund UNICEF in Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by representatives of the central office of the State Committee on Statistics, UNICEF, international experts in this field, heads of relevant ministries and departments, as well as representatives of the media.

As noted in the presentation, in order to ensure the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-4273 dated April 9, 2019 “On additional measures to ensure openness and transparency of public administration, as well as increase the statistical potential of the country”, as well as assessing the condition of children and women in the republic at the international level, in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 625 dated July 24, 2019, in 2020-2021 it was planned to conduct cluster observations of multi-indicators in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Indicator Cluster Surveys is an international household sampling survey program developed by the United Nations International Children's Fund UNICEF , which collects data on several indicators, mainly to assess the situation of children and women, and is the world's largest source of statistics on mothers and children .
MICS surveys were conducted 349 times in 118 countries around the world from 1995 to 2022. These surveys include important statistics such as maternal and child health, women's reproductive health, children's rights and educational attainment, and children's health and physical development.

Conducting Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys ( MICS ) in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2021-2022 is organized in cooperation with the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics and the representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund ( UNICEF ) in Uzbekistan. The State Committee on Statistics is designated as the authorized state body to conduct the survey.
The observations were carried out in two stages. At the first stage in March-June 2021, data were obtained on a number of indicators collected on the basis of a representative sample at the national level. However, due to a number of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, an additional representative sample was prepared in September 2021, based on which a second round of data collection was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022.
During the first stage of the field work, the survey was conducted in 10,879 households (out of 10,890 inhabitants) in the visited clusters, after which the second stage of the field work was carried out. A new sample of 4507 households was formed from the same clusters that were visited in the first stage.

As part of the second stage, the survey was conducted in 4180 households (out of 4248 inhabitants) , which made it possible to obtain reliable calculations for most indicators both at the national level and at the level of six geo-economic regions (Western, Central, Southern, Central -Eastern, Eastern and Tashkent) as well as urban and rural areas. Twelve regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Tashkent are united into these six geo-economic regions. Urban and rural areas in each region were identified as the main sampling levels, and households were sampled in three stages (district, segment, and household).

The survey used four questionnaires:
- Household Questionnaire to collect basic demographic information about all family members, households and residential areas;
- Individual questionnaire for women aged 15-49, completed for women in each household;
- Questionnaire for children under 5, designed for mothers (or guardians) of children under 5 living in the home;
- Questionnaire for children aged 5-17, completed by the mother (or guardian) of one randomly selected child aged 5-17 living in the household.
The structure of the MICS statistical review for 2021-2022:
- Characteristics of the sample and the survey
- Survival. Child mortality
- Prosperity. Reproductive and maternal health
- Prosperity. Health, nutrition and development of children
- Training

As a result of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys in the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with UNICEF , statistical data on the lifestyle of mothers and children in the country will be updated and reflected in international databases. The indicators generated from the results of the survey cover 40% of the indicator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the household. This, in turn, will help improve the performance of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the World Bank's Statistical Capacity Index and other international rankings.

During the survey, data were collected in 556 mahallas , selected in the Republic of Uzbekistan, through personal interviews with respondents in the field, filling out questionnaires electronically on tablets.
On the basis of the generated analytical tables, taking into account the proposals and comments of UNICEF international experts , work was carried out to form reporting applications and summary tables, and prepare a draft report.
The final data on the results of the survey are provided to the relevant ministries and departments of the republic for the development of comprehensive measures for the development of relevant industries and areas.
Based on the results of the conducted MICS, more than 20 indicator indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be formed.
The data generated based on the results of MICS will be posted on the official website of the State Committee on Statistics ( www.stat.uz) and on the UNICEF website (www.mics.unicef.org) in November-December of this year.
As noted in the presentation, the publication of the results of the MICS conducted in our country will serve to update the indicators relating to the Republic of Uzbekistan, which have not been updated in international databases for many years , as well as to improve the position of our country in international ratings and indices, as well as to increase its prestige in the world community.
At the end of the presentation, detailed answers were given to journalists' questions by employees of the State Committee on Statistics and representatives of UNICEF.
