On May 8-12, 2023, the UN Statistics Department (UNSD), together with UN-Habitat and the European Commission, organized a regional workshop on the implementation of the methodology for assessing the degree of urbanization in Almaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This seminar was attended by specialists from the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The seminar was also attended by the chief specialist of the Department for organizing and conducting census processes S. Huseynov, and the chief specialist of the Department for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies and Interactive Public Services of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Z. Toymasov.
The seminar discussed the methodology for assessing the degree of urbanization, the division of cities and rural areas on a scientific basis, as well as the application of methods for dividing the population census into registration and settlement areas using GIS technologies, in addition, training sessions were held with the population on the use of GIS technologies during the announcement registration results.
