According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 5, 2019 “On approval of the concept of conducting a population census in 2022 in the Republic of Uzbekistan,” it was planned to conduct a population census in our republic in 2022. On March 16, 2020, the Law “On the Population Census” was adopted.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic that began in 2020, this event was postponed to 2023. According to the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 11, 2020 “On preparation for the 2023 population census in the Republic of Uzbekistan and measures for its implementation,” the population census in the republic is planned to be held on November 1-25, 2023.

In order to thoroughly prepare for the population census, all regulatory and methodological documents regulating the field, as well as forms of registration questionnaires, were developed, a special website for the population census was introduced (aholi.stat.uz), a logo and motto of the event called (“Be part of New Uzbekistan!”), the “Census” information system has been developed, which allows you to collect, process, analyze and formulate the results of primary census data. Also, maps of all microdistricts of our republic have been updated, and a list of residential and non-residential premises has been compiled.

From November 1 to November 25, 2021, a trial population census was conducted in the Khodzhiabad district of the Andijan region, the Yukori-Chirchik district of the Tashkent region, the city of Khiva of the Khorezm region and the Yashnabad district of the city of Tashkent. Registration processes were carried out in three different ways: online (via the Internet), tablet and paper registration processes were tested.

In test processes, census using the tablet method proved to be more convenient, faster and cost-effective than the paper method. Based on the test results and the experience of advanced countries, it is planned to abandon the paper registration method and plan to conduct it via the Internet and with the widespread use of tablet devices.

At the same time, given that the financial costs associated with this event are being studied, we inform you that additional information will be provided by the Agency after the final decision is made.
