The nineteenth session of the Governing Council of the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific was held on 13-14 December 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and a management seminar for Heads  of National Statistical Offices was held on 14-15 December.

These events were organized in collaboration with the Statistics Division of the Asia and Pacific Economic and Social Commission, and the work plan of the Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific for 2024 was reviewed during the nineteenth session of the Governing Council. In accordance with it, next year it is planned to organize training courses on topics relevant in the field of statistics, namely on the Fundamental principles of official statistics, Consumer price index, Gender statistics, Climate change statistics, Big Data, Sustainable Development Goals and etc.

During the meeting, members of the Governing Council and representatives of observer countries discussed the priorities of the strategic plan of the Statistical Institute of Asia and the Pacific for 2025-2029.

Also during the event, a meeting was held with representatives of the Bureau of the ESCAP Statistical Committee, at which the fundamental principles of statistics, “System of National Accounts - 2008”, included in the 54th session of the UN Statistical Commission, as well as the formation of the budget of the Bureau of the ESCAP Statistical Committee for 2024 were discussed.

The Management seminar addressed topics aimed at strengthening the leadership and management abilities of managers by creating a platform for discussion, exchange of views and experience for statistical managers.

Deputy Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ikramov Agzam Anvarjonovich participated in the events.

The events provided an opportunity to study the experience of countries in Asia and the Pacific, including meetings with the heads of the National Statistical Offices of Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore on improving industry statistics, establishing the exchange of modern statistical methodologies and best practices.

During the events, the participants studied the best practices of foreign countries and agreed on further cooperation.
