On July 16 of this year, the Committee on Democratic Institutions and Civil Society Development Issues under the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis organized a seminar dedicated to the discussion of the draft law “On Introducing Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of the State Governance System in the Field of Official Statistics”.

The event was attended by members of the Legislative Chamber, representatives of the National Statistical Committee, experts, and media professionals. During the seminar, Deputy Chairman of the National Statistics Committee, Mr. Z. Ziyayev, delivered a presentation outlining the activities carried out within the system and the results achieved.

As noted during the presentation, in recent years, Uzbekistan has undertaken extensive measures aimed at improving the quality of statistical data, establishing comprehensive indicator databases, aligning them with international standards, and introducing modern statistical methodologies in socio-economic and demographic spheres.
The seminar emphasized that the adoption of the Law “On Official Statistics” and the provision of data by the national statistical system to international organizations based on the core principles of official statistics have led to a number of achievements on the international stage.
For instance, according to the 2024 results of the international Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking, Uzbekistan rose to 12th place among 198 countries and continues to hold the first position in Central Asia. Moreover, according to the 2024 World Bank report on the "Statistical Performance Indicators" (CPI), Uzbekistan ranked 62nd among 217 countries based on 2023 results.

It was noted that the draft law “On Introducing Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of the State Governance System in the Field of Official Statistics” was developed to strengthen the legal foundations of ongoing reforms in the field of official statistics and to harmonize the norms of sectoral legislation. The document was adopted in the first reading at the July 1, 2025 session of the Legislative Chamber.
During the seminar, it was highlighted that the draft law introduces amendments and additions to a number of existing laws. These proposed norms aim to enhance the efficiency of administrative reforms in the field of official statistics, improve the performance of statistical bodies, and create more favorable conditions for users of official statistics.

The committee representatives provided comprehensive answers to the questions raised during the seminar regarding the draft law.
