On June 15-17, in the mode of videoconference, the Center for Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) organized a seminar for the National Statistical Services of the OIC member countries on the topic: “Coordination within national statistical systems”. The partners of the event were the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the Partnership on Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)
The event opened with opening remarks by Mr. Nyakassi MB Sanyang, Statistics General of the Bureau of Statistics of the Gambia, Mr. Fadi Farasin, Assistant Director General of CESRIC and Mr. Gabriela Gamez, Interregional Adviser, UNSD.
From the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, the head of the Department of Organization and Methodology of Statistical Works Dilshod Zakirov took part in this seminar.
Breakout sessions during the workshop allowed participants in small groups to discuss a specific topic related to NSS coordination: Mr. Gabriel Gamez, Interregional Adviser, UNSD gave a presentation on “Official Statistics and NSS: Basic Concepts and Principles”, Mr. Johannes Jutting, Executive Director, PARIS21, held a session “Leadership and Coordination in NSS”; Data management: data management outside the NSS was presented by Mr. Stephen Weill, Senior Statistician and Regional Adviser, UNECE.
Country experience in coordination within the NSS was presented by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics of Egypt, Bureau of Statistics Indonesia, National Bureau of Statistics of the Maldives, Central Bureau of Statistics of Palestine and others.
At the end of the webinar, the participants agreed to continue close cooperation on all topical issues of statistical practice.
