On August 26-30 this year, in Ottawa (Canada), with the support of the OSCE Project Coordinator's Office in Uzbekistan, representatives of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the National Statistics Agency of Canada (Statistics Canada).

During this visit, the experience of the National Statistics Agency of Canada in working with open data, using statistical standards and disseminating metadata, the Open Data Portal of Canada and the publication of data sets, the processes of implementing open data by Statistics Canada and the changes adopted during the transition to open data, the experience of coordination and data exchange with the National Statistics Agency of Canada, geospatial data and their coordination, a tool for planning infrastructure projects, the Canadian "Interconnected Open Data Environment" - an initiative that collects and harmonizes data sets on buildings and enterprises in one open database, an open source platform for publishing information on the progress of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and continuity of access to information were studied.

Also, employees of the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan made presentations on the activities, projects, priority goals and objectives of the Statistics Agency in the international arena, as well as the achievements, problems and plans of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the future in the field of open data, and exchanged experience.

In addition, on August 30, a meeting was organized in Toronto with the Director of the Canadian Open Data Society Paul Vet.

Discussion mainly focused on  the activities of the Open Data Society of Canada, its organization, current work, as well as annual summits, open data and future goals.

In addition, the Director of the Open Data Society of Canada was informed about the achievements of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of open data in recent years and future plans, as well as the support of the OSCE project coordinator in Uzbekistan in this area.

Following the meetings, an agreement was reached to continue cooperation between the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Statistics Agency of Canada and the Open Data Society of Canada.
