On September 16-20 of this year, a regional seminar dedicated to web-scraping on consumer price statistics organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific region (ESCATO) was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The event was attended by representatives of the National Statistical Offices of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (ESCATO) member states, representatives and experts of the United Nations Statistics Department.
Mukhtor Umarov, head of the Price Statistics Department of the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shohrukh Odilov, head of the Digital Technologies and Interactive Services Development Department, also participated in this seminar.
During the visit, positive institutional mechanisms for the introduction of new approaches to decision-making based on consumer price statistics, data management needs, technical measures and methodological opportunities were studied, and issues of introduction into the national statistical system were discussed.
Also, an opportunity was created to learn best practices in collecting and maintaining data by introducing web-scraping technologies to the recommendations of international experts on the issues on the agenda of the session and the price statistics of the participating countries.
